France’s National Commission for Public Debate (CNDP) has kicked off a five-month consultation on plans to build up to 750MW of floating wind off the south coast of Brittany.
France is considering two floating tenders off Brittany as part of the country’s Multiannual Energy Programme.
The government is looking to put 250MW of capacity under the hammer in 2021 and a second tranche of 500MW from 2024.
Both projects will export power to the grid via a shared transmission system provided by French grid operator RTE, consultation documents show.
As part of the debate, which will run until 30 November, stakeholders can provide their feedback on government plans via a web portal.
The feedback will be used to finalise a 200 square-kilometre area for the 250MW project and a 400 square-kilometre zone for the 500MW project off the coast of Lorient.
