The Danish Energy Agency has launched a consultation on draft tender conditions for its upcoming technology-neutral renewables auction.
Under the proposals for the 2020 tender, wave and hydropower will compete with wind and solar to supply green electricity at the lowest cost.
As agreed in the country’s June 2020 climate agreement, the support model has changed from supplementing the market price to a so-called contract for difference (CfD) model, where the state assumes a larger share of the long-term risk associated with developing renewable energy.
The technology-neutral tender in 2019, where solar and wind competed for the lowest support price, helped to drive down the weighted average of the winning price supplements by 32% on the previous year’s price supplement.
The Danish Energy Agency is now inviting interested parties to submit written comments and questions on draft tender conditions for the forthcoming technology-neutral tender in 2020.
Comments and questions are due no later than Wednesday 26 August 2020.

The Danish Government, as well as various political parties entered into an agreement on 22 June 2020 to continue technology-neutral tenders.
