Statkraft has signed a power purchase agreement to buy 50% of the output from SSE Renewables and Total’s 1075MW Seagreen offshore wind farm off Scotland.
The offtake deal will commence once the project goes online in 2022-23 and will be the largest in the Norwegian utility’s portfolio, which currently stands at 10TWh.
John Puddephatt, head of Statkraft long term PPA origination, said: “We wish Seagreen well during the construction phase and look forward to working with them for many years to come.”
Seagreen bid manager Mark Timmons added: “As part of our project financing we required an off-taker with a strong credit rating and the ability to purchase a substantial amount of power on a long term basis. Statkraft were well suited to this role.”
SSE and Total hold a Contract for Difference for 454MW of the project, which will feature 114 MHI Vestas 10MW turbines.
