Vissim has been awarded the marine communication and management system contract for Japan’s first commercial scale offshore wind projects.
The Akita and Noshiro wind farms, with a combined 140MW capacity, are being delivered by a consortium led by Marubeni Corporation.
The two sites will be operated from a centralised control and communication station.
The construction of the onshore substation and transmission lines for the wind farms commenced in February 2020.
Offshore construction is due to start early next year with commercial operations expected in 2022.
Vissim global wind managing director Nicholas Dent said: “We are delighted to have been entrusted with turnkey delivery including licencing, radar, AIS, radio communication systems and, of course, integrated marine management software.”
“Vissim has experience of delivering systems across the world, and we are excited to build on that to create unique expertise in this dynamic and key market.”
Dent added it was “particularly rewarding” to be “engaging with the local supply chain and working alongside them to prepare for this and future projects”.
