French clean power group Syndicat des Energies Renouvelables has called on the government to accelerate and streamline the process for developing renewable energy projects.
The proposal is one of a number of measures the Syndicat put forward today for France to follow in order to use clean power as lever for green recovery following Covid-19.
Measures to streamline the project development process include generalising the filing of building and environmental permit applications, as well as shortening the deadlines for examining authorities.
The deadlines for examining applications for tenders should regulated and the appeals process should be speeded up, the Syndicat said.
The French grid network should be optimised to support the accelerated development of renewables.
Other measures proposed include strengthening the EU emissions trading scheme in line with the European objective of carbon neutrality by 2050, coupled with a floor price for carbon and a mechanism of carbon inclusion at borders.
The government should also introduce stimulus to accelerate the penetration of renewable energies in the building industry and to encourage individuals and businesses to switch to clean power.
More should also be done to promote the export of French renewables expertise, such as export financing and guarantee tools.
