Enel has connected 185MW of wind capacity in North America, comprising two projects in Canada and a 50MW wind farm extension in the US.
The Canadian projects are the 105MW Riverview and 29.4MW Castle Rock Ridge 2 wind farms, both in Alberta.
Castle Rock Ridge 2 and Riverview are supplying their net power output and renewable energy credits to the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) under two 20-year Renewable Energy Support Agreements, awarded in 2017 through a tender launched by AESO.
Enel Green Power North America has also begun operating the expansion to the High Lonesome wind farm in Texas, increasing the project’s total capacity from 450MW to 500MW.
Enel Green Power chief executive Antonio Cammisecra said: “The commissioning of these three new wind farms is further evidence that Enel remains committed to growing its renewable portfolio worldwide.
“This commitment has also been underscored by the completion of over 400MW of renewable plants worldwide in the first quarter of the year, allowing renewables to greatly exceed conventional generation in our portfolio both in terms of capacity and production.
“While prioritising health and safety, looking ahead we will continue generating new sustainable value through our emission-free energy across the globe, in accordance with the Group’s Strategic Plan.”
Enel started operating the 450MW High Lonesome facility in December 2019.
The project was expanded by 50MW due to a 12-year power purchase agreement (PPA) signed in December with food and beverage company Danone North America for physical delivery of the renewable electricity associated with a 20.6MW portion of the 50MW expansion.
Enel Green Power has three renewable power projects under construction in the US.
They are the 236.5MW White Cloud wind project in Missouri, the 299MW Aurora wind project in North Dakota and the 245MW second phase of the Roadrunner solar project in Texas.
