Finnish offshore wind developer Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy is plotting a major expansion of its existing 42MW Tahkoluoto project off Pori in the Gulf of Bothnia.
The company will kick off an environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the extension shortly and said the new project will feature between 40 and 45 turbines rated between 11MW and 16MW.
At a recent project unveiling the developer said it wants to secure EIA approval next year, with a view to starting construction by 2023 and having the project online by 2025.
The developer has identified a site for the project in waters between 10 and 30 metres deep.
The new project area neighbours the original Tahkoluoto and is around 5km from shore.
The first phase of the Tahkoluoto project features ten Siemens Gamesa 4.2MW turbines mounted on gravity-base foundations designed to withstand sea ice in the waters off Finland.
It was commissioned in 2017.
