Dominion Energy has confirmed it is leading a consortium that will deliver a Jones Act-compliant installation vessel for the US offshore wind market.
Chief executive Thomas Farrell said the ship will be equipped to handle all current turbines as well as next generation units of 12MW and beyond.
The story was first reported by subscriber-only reNEWS on 20 February.
The vessel is scheduled to enter service in 2023 and “operate continuously” for several years, he said.
Farrell told a conference call marking the utility’s first quarter results that the unnamed ship will operate “under contract with multiple major US offshore wind developers”.
Funding is yet to be finalised among consortium participants, according to slides produced by the company.
The consortium members were not disclosed.
If finalised, the vessel will be one of the first offshore wind Jones Act-compliant vessels to enter service for the nascent US sector.
Multiple projects are due to enter construction in the coming years once ongoing permitting uncertainty is resolved.
