EnBW will not bid for the 700MW Hollandse Kust North zone off the Netherlands, becoming the latest developer to sit out the ongoing tender.
The Germany developer in 2017 formed a Dutch offshore wind subsidiary EnBW Wind op Zee BV but a spokesperson confirmed to reNEWS the company will sidestep the zero-subsidy auction round.
The spokesperson did not disclose the company’s reason for not bidding.
EnBW bid and won a 2017 German tender for the right to develop the 900MW He Dreiht project off Germany without supports.
The company joins Swedish developer Vattenfall, which announced it would not bid in the contest late last month.
Vattenfall cited uncertainty in energy prices driven by the COVID-19 pandemic as its motive for pulling out.
A spokesperson for the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs said the tender round is progressing as planned.
“We are still expecting sufficient wind farm developers to take part in the tender,” the spokesperson said.
Bidding for the site closes 30 April, with the ministry due to reveal winners within 13 weeks of auction close.
