Work has started to install a new crane boom on Swire Blue Ocean jack-up vessel Pacific Osprey at the port of Esbjerg in Denmark.
The 422-tonne unit has been lifted onto the vessel using two shore cranes and locked to the base of the crane.
“Operations went very well, and the team on site has already been able to derig one of the shore cranes,” Swire Blue Ocean said.
It added that in the coming days the focus will be on mounting the boom hoist wires.
The boom was made by National Oilwell Varco at facilities in China and sailed for Denmark in January.
Once fully installed it will raise the hook height of the Osprey’s 1200-tonne crane by 35 metres to a maximum of 137 metres.
The upgrade will allow the jack-up to install next generation turbines, including the 140 Siemens Gamesa 11MW units it will fit at Vattenfall’s 1.5GW Hollandse Kust 1-4 development off the Netherlands from 2022.
