Siemens Gamesa is reopening all turbine production facilities across Spain after a two week “pause” in non-essential work due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Factories in Lerma and Burgos producing gearboxes, an electronic equipment plant in San Fernando de Henares, a blade plant in Somozas and a nacelle factory in Ágreda reopened today.
The company’s blade plant in Aoiz, gearbox production in Asteasu and a converter plant in Valencia will be opening Tuesday due to bank holidays in some Spanish regions.
A Siemens Gamesa spokesperson told reNEWS: “After the Easter break, the plants have resumed normal activity according with the holiday schedule of each region.”
The spokesperson said that following the Royal Decree-Law stopping non-essential activities on 30 March, it had paused production, except for some essential activity at Reinosa, Cuenca, Mungia and Sigüeiro for the supply and repair of components.
“The safety and wellbeing of our workers is our number one priority. At the moment the Covid-19 crisis started we put in place rigorous safe protocols in our production facilities.”
She added: “Measures implemented weeks ago include reinforcement of the cleaning systems, keeping distance between workers, reorganization of the flows of entry and exit of workers, separation of shifts, utilisation of personal protective equipment, and taking temperature tests before entering the factory, among others.”
