The first turbine at the 752MW Borssele 1&2 wind farm off the Netherlands has been successfully installed.
DEME Offshore completed the 8MW Siemens Gamesa turbine on Sunday after its jack-up Sea Challenger picked up the first four turbines for the site from the Danish port of Esbjerg last week.
Orsted has said it would be doing its “utmost” to keep building the 94-turbine project despite the pandemic.
DEME Offshore is continuing to install monopile and transition pieces at the project from Rotterdam port using its Innovation vessel.
The jack-up began work at the project in January and is making swift progress, with 47 of the turbine foundations now in place.
“Together with Orsted, we will continue our excellent partnership for the remaining foundations,” said DEME Offshore general manager Bart De Poorter.
“I also would like to take this opportunity to thank the client, our crew and project staff for the great achievement on the foundation installation, considering the unprecedented challenges they are all facing.”
Borssele 1&2 is Orsted’s first project in the Netherlands and is due online later in 2020.
