German turbine outfit Nordex secured 1600MW of new orders in the first quarter of 2020 – increasing its volume of firm orders some 59% above last year, when the company closed out the quarter adding just over 1GW.
Nordex cited a raft of orders for European projects, which account for almost 1.3GW of its backlog, as a key factor in its strong Q1 showing.
The company highlighted Norway, Great Britain, Turkey and Finland as the strongest markets.
In Norway alone, the Nordex Group secured a 400MW order for its new N149/5.X turbine for the Oyfjellet wind project near Vefsn.
South America also made a positive contribution, with orders of amounting to 269MW from Chile, and 83MW in Brazil.
“With more than 1.6GW of order intake in the first quarter, the Nordex Group has once again shown very good and stable order intake,” said company chief executive Jose Luis Blanco.
“With 1.4GW, the Delta4000 series alone accounted for 85 per cent of the turbines sold.
“The high proportion of our new 5MW+ class turbines introduced in 2019, with 93 turbines alone sought in this category, is particularly pleasing,” Blanco added.
