Siemens Gamesa has paused production at its blade factory in Hull, east England, in light of new government guidelines in response to the coronavirus.
The company said in a statement that it has been reviewing operations daily because of the COVID-19 outbreak and guidance coming from the government.
“While guidance regarding factories and industrial operations has been much less prescriptive than that for shops and offices, Siemens Gamesa is taking this opportunity to pause production operations and review safety measures in the light of new government guidelines,” it said.
Port operations in Hull remain open under the same regime of review, the company added.
Earlier this week, Siemens Gamesa closed manufacturing plants in India in response to a three-week government-enforced lockdown across the country to curtail the spread of the coronavirus.
Blade manufacturing in Nellore and Halol, in Andra Pradesh and Gujarat, respectively, are affected, the company said.
Previously this month Siemens Gamesa closed two factories in Spain after employees in each one tested positive for coronavirus.
The factories in question are a blade manufacturing plant at Aoiz, Navarre, and a site in San Fernando de Henares in Madrid, which produces power electronics equipment.
