Enel Green Power Europe head Aristotelis Chantavas has been appointed chairman of the board of directors of trade group SolarPower Europe.
Chantavas (pictured) said he is “honoured to have been elected to head SolarPower Europe”, which comes at a “crucial moment” for the development of renewable energy.
He said: “Thanks to the work we’ve done so far, solar has become a key technology in the energy transition.
“We now need to get ready to make a leap in quality for solar, making it a dominant cutting-edge technology, which will play a vital role in the European Green New Deal.”
Chantavas added that he plans to provide clear, shared guidelines for drafting policies, regulatory frameworks and market models that support safer, more efficient and sustainable decarbonisation.
He joined Enel Group in November 2018 and is currently the head of the Europe area.
Chantavas graduated in civil engineering from DUTH, and also holds a Master in Engineering from the University of Warwick and a further specialization in Entrepreneurial Studies from Harvard University.
His career in the renewable energy sector includes roles in Europe and North America working with commercial development, construction and maintenance, mergers and acquisitions and new investments.
