EDP Renewables has completed construction of the 50MW Los Mirasoles 2 wind farm in the US state of Texas.
The second phase brings total capacity at the Los Mirasoles complex to 300MW in the Rio Grande Valley area.
Los Mirasoles 2 is located in Hidalgo and Starr counties and represents a capital investment of approximately $80m.
EPDR said local farmers and landowners will earn a steady stream of additional income for leasing a small percentage of their land to the wind farm, while local governments will also see new revenue coming in through the life of the wind farm.
Approximately 240 jobs were created during construction, with several permanent positions to maintain and monitor the operational turbines of the two-phase plant.
EDP Renewables North America area operations manager for Texas and Mexico JP Hunter said: “The overwhelming support from area residents and officials enabled the development and construction of the second phase of Los Mirasoles.
“We’ve enjoyed forging new relationships with the local community to build this second phase and are grateful to provide more clean energy to south Texas.”
EDPR operates 700MW of wind energy in Texas.
