Total has acquired a 1GW-strong portfolio of onshore wind projects after paying an undisclosed fee to buy developer Global Wind Power France.
The portfolio includes both operational and in-development projects including 250MW of new capacity due to come online by 2025, Total said.
The Global Wind Power team will be merged with Total’s French renewable energy arm Total Quadran.
“This new investment demonstrates Total’s commitment to expand in all types of renewable energy while contributing to France’s energy transition goals. It strengthens Total Quadran’s footprint.” said Philippe Sauquet, president of gas, renewables and power at Total.
Total Quadran operates over 300 renewable energy plants in France totalling over 900 MW.
Parent company Total is meanwhile targeting huge growth in its renewables portfolio and hopes to operate 25GW of renewable energy assets by 2025, up from a current volume of around 3GW.
