The second substation for the 487MW SeaMade offshore wind project off the Belgian coast has been installed.
Each 1200 tonne substation will convert the wind energy produced by SeaMade to 225kV, which will be exported to shore via the Modular Offshore Grid, developed by Belgium’s transmission system operator Elia.
The substations were assembled at Engie Fabricom’s yard in Hoboken.
Engie Fabricom is part of consortium also including Tractebel, Smulders and GeoSea responsible for the full engineering, procurement, construction, transport, installation and commissioning of both substations.
Seamade, which is being developed by Otary, will comprise 58 Siemens Gamesa 8.4MW turbines with 167-metre rotor diameters.
DEME Offshore completed installation of the project’s 58 monopile and two offshore substation foundations in January.
