Dutch fabricator Sif has signed a contract for the supply of 33 turbine foundations for the 140MW Akita-Noshiro offshore wind farm off Japan.
The Roermond-based steel specialist will deliver monopiles and transition pieces in 2020, as well as storage at its MV2 staging facility.
The contract with Sif was first reported by subscriber-only reNEWS earlier this year.
The contract has been signed with Kajima Corporation, which is the engineering, procurement, construction and installation operator at the site, which is situated in waters off the Akita prefecture and is Japan’s first large-scale offshore wind project.
This project was already in Sif’s orderbook as one under exclusive negotiations but is now included as a firm contract. Sif’s orderbook for 2020 now has approximately 175 Kton in firm projects.
Sif chief executive Fred van Beers said: “At Sif we are proud and thankful that Kajima corporation has put their trust in Sif for the supply of the monopiles of this first significant offshore wind farm.
“At Sif we consider this an important milestone and a confirmation that 5 years of investment in building up strong business relations in the developing Japanese OSW market has paid off.
“The Japanese offshore wind market has a lot of mid to long term potential and Sif is committed to contribute to the successful development of this growing market.”
