DEME Offshore’s newbuild floating crane vessel Orion has moved a step closer to delivery after having its 5000-tonne lifting arm fitted.
The Leibherr-built crane was fitted to the 216.5-metre long monohull vessel at the crane builder’s facilities in the German port of Rostock.
DEME said the crane has a 5000-tonne capacity at 35 metre outreach and a hook height of 180 metres.
The vessel is set to start sea trials shortly and will then sail for a debut gig in waters off east Scotland, where it will install 103 jacket foundations at EDPR and Engie’s 950MW Moray East offshore wind farm.
Three of the jackets will support the project’s offshore substation topsides, while 100 will be used as bases for the MHI Vestas 9.5MW turbines.
DEME Offshore completed piling work at the Moray Firth project using jack-up vessel Apollo this week.
