Output from Shell and EDPR’s 804MW Mayflower Wind offshore wind farm off the US east coast will be sold to Massachusetts utilities for just over $58 (€53) a megawatt-hour.
The $58.47/MWh price is in documentation for the 20-year power purchase agreements with Massachusetts utilities filed for approval with the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities.
The documents said the price will be cheaper than buying the same volume of energy on the wholesale market, projected to be $84/MWh.
The Mayflower price is also below the $65/MWh agreed by Massachusetts for the 800MW Vineyard Wind offshore wind farm
Mayflower Wind was chosen by Massachusetts in the latter’s second offshore wind solicitation in October last year.
It is expected to start operations in 2025.
