Belgian offshore contractor DEME Offshore has installed its 2200th offshore wind turbine.
The company said the landmark unit has been installed at ScottishPower Renewables’ 714MW East Anglia 1 project off Sussex.
DEME is currently installing the project’s 102 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines with jack-up vessels Sea Installer and Sea Challenger.
“We are very proud to have installed turbine number 2,200 and would like to thank and congratulate our crew and project teams who have contributed to this remarkable milestone. I would also like to thank our customers and contractors for their continued support and confidence,” DEME Offshore business unit director Michael Glavind said.
DEME Offshore has installed 2200 turbines have a combined capacity of 9316MW since hoisting its first 1.5MW unit into place at the 10.5MW Utgrunden wind farm off Sweden in 2000.
“The experience acquired during each of these installations, carried out in varied weather conditions and on different seabeds, allows us to have unique know-how on which we can rely for any future offshore wind project. We are also using this expertise to lead the market as a developer of new innovative concepts for installation equipment,” Glavind added.
DEME will install turbines at Orsted’s 752MW Borssele 1&2 wind farm off the Netherlands and Otay’s 487MW SeaMade project off Belgium later this year.
