Spanish company Naturgy Renovables has started work on an over 29MW wind farm on Fuerteventura in Spain’s Canary Islands.
The Puerto del Rosario project will feature eight turbines and will produce around 105 gigawatt-hours a year of electricity.
Over €35m will be invested in the wind farm, which will generate about 200 jobs during peak construction.
Puerto del Rosario is scheduled to come online in the first quarter of next year, Naturgy said.
The company already owns the Fuerteventura Renewable 2 wind farm, which comprises two 4.7MW turbines and has been operational on the island since December 2018.
Naturgy has a further eight wind farms on various islands in the Canaries, made up of 16 turbines and with a combined capacity of 41MW.
Overall, the company has 1291MW of installed renewable energy capacity in Spain, of which 1051MW is wind, 111MW mini-hydro, 100MW solar and 29MW cogeneration.
