Italian cable fabricator Prysmian is investigating an incident that caused National Grid and Scottish Power’s 385km Western Link HVDC interconnector to trip.
The cable supplier said the submarine cable tripped on Friday 10 January and remains offline.

“Investigations are ongoing to assess the root cause. As soon as there will be relevant updates Prysmian will inform the market,” a company statement said.
The 600kV-rated wire has a capacity of 2.2GW.
Prysmian was responsible for the construction of the £1bn line in 2017 with Germany’s Siemens, which provided the converter stations for the project.
Scottish Power and National Grid took over operation of the line in 2018.
