Dutch logistics company Xellz has kicked off investigations of sites in Ireland for a new offshore wind operations base.
The company, which provides solutions to heavy-lift and project logistics outfits, says it is looking at locations on the south and south-east coasts.
A final selection would serve as a supply base to serve “future offshore renewable wind energy endeavours”, said a statement.
“We already started discussions with ports and landowners to ensure the best location with sufficient infrastructure and have looked at where possible investments that will be required to establish the support for the wind energy industry,” said chief executive Peter Bouwhuis.
The company’s Irish arm, Xellz Ireland, is leading the work.
Xellz claims to lower the cost of project logistics by as much as 25% using in-house IT technology.
The Irish government has set a target to reach 3.5GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030.
