A 250MW French floating offshore wind farm proposed off the coast of southern Brittany will be subject to a public debate in 2020.
Regional president Loig Chesnais-Girard has “welcomed” the decision by the National Commission for Public Debate (CNDP) to engage in the public consultation next year.
The consultation will serve to collect the views of in citizens in Brittany on the commercial floating wind project in 2021, which will be the largest in European waters.
Chesnais-Girard said: “I am delighted that this public debate will soon be launched on the future floating offshore wind farm in southern Brittany with a capacity of 250MW.
“Brittany has made floating wind a major area of development within its marine energy sector.”
Several floating wind projects are in various stages of development off the coast of Brittany, including the Groix & Belle-Ile pilot in water depths of 70 metres, which will use three MHI-Vestas 9.5MW turbines and which will be commissioned in 2022.
Eolfi, recently acquired by Shell, is developing the 28.5MW pilot.
