Siemens Gamesa has contracted Danish company FairWind for pre-assembly work on turbines for the 752MW Borssele 1&2 and 640MW Yunlin offshore wind farms off the coasts of the Netherlands and Taiwan, respectively.

The work on Borssele will take place at the port of Esbjerg in Denmark, with pre-assembly of 94 towers for the 8.0-167 DD turbines at the start of 2020.

In Taiwan, FairWind will also be involved in the pre-assembly of 80 towers for 8.0-167 DD machines at the port of Taichung during 2020 and 2021.

Both jobs also include high voltage scope and HSBM, FairWind said.

FairWind will also expand its team at Taichung, having carried out work already on 20 Siemens Gamesa 6.0-154 turbines for the 120MW second phase of the Formosa 1 offshore wind farm.

The recruitment process is already underway, with meetings scheduled with candidates in early January, the Danish company said.

FairWind head of offshore Per Friis said: “We look forward to continuing the constructive cooperation we have had with Siemens Gamesa, as well as partners BMS Heavy Cranes, and Sevenstar in Taiwan.

“FairWind’s emphasis on creating quality solutions closely with our client, supported by our global capability and track record in establishing new regions, has resulted in a successful expansion of our activities in the offshore wind energy business in Taiwan and Europe.

“We welcome back our technicians and site management in Esbjerg and Taichung, who have proven they can provide the quality, HSE, and milestones expected by our client.”

Siemens Gamesa offshore project procurement global commodity manager Herve Bouraima said: “We are happy to continue our collaboration with FairWind on both markets where they have already demonstrated excellent execution and adaptability capabilities.

“With regards to Taiwan, we look forward to continuing working with FairWind to build more local content on that important market for Siemens Gamesa.”
