Latvia and Estonia are considering jointly developing an offshore wind farm in the Gulf of Riga in the Baltic Sea.
Estonia’s minister of economic affairs and infrastructure Taavi Aas and Latvia’s economics minister Ralphs Nemir met at the end of last week to discuss the possible establishment of a joint project.
They said the project would help to promote energy independence and security for both countries by diversifying sources of supply.
Both ministers agreed to progress with the proposal, with the next step to develop guidelines for the project.
Nemiro said: “It is extremely important for the Baltic region to work towards common goals as a strong alliance.
“I am very pleased that we have finally been able to achieve active cooperation between Latvia and Estonia in the development of a common renewable energy source.”
