Orsted has contracted Swedish company Trelleborg to provide a cable protection system for the 900MW Greater Changhua 1&2a offshore wind farm off Taiwan.
Trelleborg will provide 235 NjordGuard cable protection systems and bellmouths, which will protect all the array and export wires.
Production of the equipment will take place at Trelleborg’s manufacturing facility in the north-west of England.
Project engineering works will commence immediately, with installation activities scheduled for 2021, the company said.
It added that NjordGuard is an integrated cable protection system that can easily be assembled on a vessel to allow speedy installation.
The system’s abrasion resistant API 17L certified Uraduct material enables travel over the seabed without damage, Trelleborg said.
Trelleborg product group Manager for renewables Andy Smith said: “This is a significant achievement that marks our continued growth in renewables; a market we recognise is crucial for the world’s future energy needs.
“This major award continues Trelleborg’s excellent relationship with Orsted following our six-year framework for providing NjordGuard cable protection system on their future projects.”
Greater Changhua 1&2a will comprise 111 Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines installed on jacket foundations.
