Facebook has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with US solar developer Apex for the majority of output from the latter’s 80MW Altavista project in Virginia.
The social media company will offtake a 61.6MW portion of the PV farm due online next year.
Facebook said the project will support operations in Virginia and will help the company make strides toward its dual targets of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 75% and supporting 100% of its operations with renewable energy in 2020.
The PPA deal is the second transaction between Apex and the tech company in 2019.
In August, Facebook signed a 200MW PPA for the Aviator Wind East wind farm in Coke County, Texas.
“We’re thrilled to once again partner with Facebook at Altavista Solar, expanding Apex’s track record of fulfilling corporate clean energy demand as the private sector escalates its efforts to decarbonize the grid,” said Apex Clean Energy CEO Mark Goodwin.
