A new training facility established by Chantiers de l’Atlantique has been set up that will train people with skills for marine and offshore vessels and structures fabrication.
Chantiers de l’Atlantique general manager Laurent Castaing inaugurated the Chantiers de l’Atlantique School.
The event was attended by public figures, local authorities, trainees of the school and company staff.
The school is installed in a building in the shipyard and has been funded by Chantiers de l’Atlantique with an investment of around €1m.
The facility offers training in metal work, carpentry, welding and pipefitting.
At capacity the school will train about 50 people a year.
The first eight trainees have been attending since October.
Castaing said, “It is indeed important to train people who will promote our spirit of rigour, requirement and kindness as well as share our values.”
The inauguration provided an opportunity to present the extent of the technical resources of the school through several demonstrations by the trainees, including welding.
The trainees engaged in work-study contracts follow 455 hours of training, spread over one year.
The school’s main focus is on practical application of skills.
A session for welder training will start at the end of January 2020. A pipefitting training programme is under consideration, said Chantiers de l’Atlantique.
