RWE Renewables has entered Poland’s offshore market with the acquisition of four wind farms in the Polish Baltic Sea.
The pipeline of wind farms with a combined capacity of over 1.5GW was bought from private developers for an undisclosed price.
The projects are all at different stages of development and are located in the central Polish Baltic Sea around the Slupsk Bank area, said a company statement.
RWE intends to further develop, build and operate the projects, with construction possibly starting early in 2023, it said.
The deal meets RWE’s ambition to “grow its offshore operations across Europe”, the company said.
RWE Renewable chief operations officer for offshore and new markets Sven Utermohlen said: “Poland is a very attractive emerging market for offshore wind, and one with the best untapped potential in Europe.
“RWE is keen to enter it early and leverage our global offshore capabilities and strong local presence, in order to help build a strong offshore wind sector in Poland.”
In total, RWE Renewables has more than 9GW of installed capacity and 2.6GW under construction.
The company is the newest subsidiary of RWE following a large asset swap with Eon at the end of September.
