EnBW has taken a final investment decision to build the 180MW Weesow-Willmersdorf subsidy-free solar farm in Germany.
Weesow-Willmersdorf will comprise around 465,000 modules covering 164 hectares near to Werneuchen in Brandenburg.
The project is expected to be fully commissioned by the end of next year.
Initial cable laying work is due to begin in Werneuchen at the beginning of 2020, EnBW said.
Weesow-Willmersdorf will generate around 180 million kilowatt-hours of electricity a year, it added.
EnBW will sell the electricity generated by the project via the wholesale electricity market and its own customer portfolio.
EnBW chief technical officer Hans-Josef Zimmer said: “The size of this solar park will give us a powerful boost in the expansion of our renewable energy portfolio.
“We are accelerating the expansion of solar energy and thus making it our third pillar.
“We are convinced that major solar parks of this size can be operated economically without funding.”
EnBW acquired the project from Procon Solar at a pre-developed stage in mid-2018.
