Vattenfall has awarded internships to more than 100 people as part of the 100 Club initiative launched in 2015 by the Swedish government.
The initiative is aimed at large companies which, over a three-year period, undertake efforts to receive at least 100 newly arrived graduates in education, internships or subsidised employment.
Vattenfall’s three-year period ended on 30 March 2019 and the company has awarded internships to 104 people in total during the period.
“It was a very successful project. The vast majority of trainees we adopted had their internships extended beyond the normal four months and some were hired,” says Eva Hager, in Vattenfall’s human resources department.
Managers within the company offered sign up to receive an intern.
Additional costs were covered by the Swedish Public Employment Service and the Social Insurance Office.
The participating managers at Vattenfall said that their expectations had been exceeded in terms of how the interns supported their business.
Hager said: “The managers have been very important to the success. They are a kind of heroes as I see it, and worth all appreciation.”
