ScottishPower Renewables has exported first power from its 714MW East Anglia 1 wind farm 43km off the Suffolk coast.
The developer said power from the first of 102 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines at the project flowed into the onshore substation at Burnstall on Thursday.
“First power being generated at East Anglia 1 is a huge achievement,” project director Charlie Jordan said.
“We are continuing to progress towards completion of the offshore wind farm and reaching this point is down to the incredible efforts of everyone involved, from local contractors and employees through to national and international businesses,” he added.
The developer said it will bring more turbines online at regular intervals as the project powers up.
DEME Offshore jack-up Sea Installer has installed 25 turbines at the project since starting work in June.
The vessel continues to install hardware from the port of Great Yarmouth.
