Vattenfall has officially inaugurated its 407MW Horns Rev 3 offshore wind farm off the coast of Denmark.
The 49-turbine project was opened by the Crown Prince of Denmark accompanied by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and the Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Dan Jorgensen.
Horns Rev 3, which is Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm, features MHI Vestas 8.3MW turbines located between 25 and 40km off the country’s west coast.
Vattenfall chief executive Magnus Hall said: “Horns Rev 3…shows our commitment to Denmark’s ongoing transition to a renewable energy system. The wind farm is a significant contribution to Vattenfall´s production portfolio and takes us one step further in our ambition to enable a fossil-free living within one generation.”
Head of wind Gunnar Groebler said offshore construction took less than two years.
The wind farm “proves Vattenfall’s position as a leading offshore developer”, he added.
MHI Vestas chief Philippe Kavafyan added: “The entire offshore wind journey is on full display right here in Denmark, with today’s 8.3 MW machines reliably producing 40 times more wind power than the first pioneering turbines from the early 90s.”
