Eon is to start construction of a 440MW wind project in the US state of Texas at the end of this year.
The $500m Big Raymond wind farm, straddling the Willacy, Cameron and Hidalgo counties, will be the largest single-phase project Eon has completed in the US.
The developer has already signed a power purchase agreement with community-owned utility Austin Energy for 200MW of the power plant’s capacity for a period of 12 years.
Eon is constructing 900MW of renewables capacity in the US, including wind and solar projects.
The 900MW includes several hundred megawatts of wind capacity in Texas.
In April this year Eon started construction of the 220MW Cranell wind farm in the state’s Refugio county, which is expected to be commissioned before the end of the year.
The wind farm will feature 100 Vestas V120 2.2MW turbines.
In March Eon has began construction of the 151MW Peyton Creek wind farm (pictured) in Matagorda county, which will feature 48 Nordex 3.15MW turbines.
Both Cranell and Peyton Creek will be commissioned by the end of this year.
Earlier this month Eon opened its 201MW Stella wind farm, also in Texas, in Kenedy county, which features 67 Nordex 3MW turbines.
