Iberdrola is planning to invest €100m on new renewables projects on the island of Ireland by 2025.
The Spanish utility will repower three of its existing fleet of six wind farms, including increasing top power at the 15MW Barnesmore project in Donegal to 60MW.
Two other repowerings include boosting the 5MW Rigged Hill and 5MW Corkey projects in Northern Ireland to 28MW and 20MW, respectively.
Iberdrola and group company ScottishPower are seeking partnership and co-development opportunities elsewhere in the market.
“When it comes to energy generation, we are the world’s largest wind power producer, and our global expertise in renewable energy means we are well-placed to support the development of Ireland’s low carbon economy,” said Iberdrola Ireland chief executive Colin McNeil.
“Ireland is already ahead of the curve when it comes to renewables, and we want to play our part in the clean energy future.”
The announcement came as the company also announced its intention to enter the country’s retail energy market.
