Swedish outfit Northern Offshore Services has unveiled a new crew transfer vessel series powered by hybrid technology for the renewables sector.
The company said the 34-metre E-class vessels will feature a lower propeller speed and a larger propeller diameter resulting in lower fuel consumption during transit and higher bollard push during docking of up to 30 tonnes.
The E-class will also have batteries installed that can be recharged from shore or direct from a wind farm to contribute to the ‘greener operation’ of the vessel, Northern Offshore Services said.
“Thanks to a variety of engine and power combinations the vessel can optimize operations, lower the fuel consumption and reduce noise,” it said.
Four modes are available for the propulsion system, including an Eco-mode where the vessle is operated at low speed with support from the batteries.
“This mode of operation will result in large fuel savings and reduction in emissions when the CTV is in standby between docking operations,” Northern Offshore Services said.
The first E-class vessel MV Energizer will be delivered at the end 2020, it added.
Northern Offshore Services chief executive David Kristensson said: “The future is green and the E-class our first step towards a fully electrified CTV fleet.
“We are confident that the E-class will be a great contribution to our fleet today and further strengthen our position in the CTV market.”
