The Connecticut Senate has approved a bill that would see the US state procure up to 2GW of offshore wind.
The bill – An Act Concerning the Procurement of Energy Derived From Offshore Wind – now goes to the Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont to be signed into law.

Last month, the state House of Representatives voted in favour of the legislation.
The bill would allow the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) to solicit proposals from developers to deliver the 2GW and direct electricity distribution companies in the state to purchase the power generated for up to 20 years.
DEEP would also be tasked with the timing and schedule of the solicitations.
