Finnish energy company Fortum has formed a joint venture with Norwegians Nordkraft to develop new wind power projects in Norway.
Fortum Nordkraft Vind builds on a partnership between the two companies in the wind market that has been in place since 2017, when the Finns bought three Norwegian projects from Nordkraft with combined capacity of 170MW.
The projects are the operational Nygardsfjellet in Narvik and Anstadblaheia in Sortland, as well as the under construction Sorfjord plant in Tysfjord.
Nordkraft has also supported Fortum on the construction and operation and maintenance of the projects.
Fortum wind vice president Joonas Rauramo said: “Fortum’s goal is to grow substantially in Nordic wind and Norway has an important role in this strategy. With the joint venture, we aim to combine the expertise of Fortum and Nordkraft to develop high quality wind power projects in Norway.”
Nordkraft project director Jon Ingebrigtsen said: “We have had a very good cooperation with Fortum in wind power and we are happy to now formalise our joint development efforts in Fortum Nordkraft Vind .
“This is important for the goal of building more renewable energy and to implement Nordkraft’s project development strategy.”
