Prysmian Group has secured a €200m contract to provide export cables for the 800MW Vineyard Wind project off the coast of Massachusetts in the US.
With the notice to proceed expected at the end of 2019, Prysmian will be responsible for the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of 134km of high voltage alternating current (HVAC) cable.
The system is composed of two 220kV three-core cables using extruded XLPE insulation.
The submarine wires cables will be produced in Prysmian’s factories in Pikkala, Finland and Arco Felice, in Italy.
Installation operations will be performed by vessels Cable Enterprise and Ulisse.
Delivery and commissioning of the project is scheduled for 2021.
Prysmian Powerlink head Hakan Ozmen said: “The US offshore wind market is now demonstrating a high level of motivation with a promising growth forecast and we are excited to contribute to realising this opportunity in the US market.”
Prysmian will also provide permanent monitoring consisting of long-range distributed temperature sensing real time thermal rating systems collecting.
Data is analysed using an artificial intelligence interface, which generates automated alarm signals if a critical situation is identified.
Prysmian’s PRY-CAM monitoring technology is designed to help electric assets owners increase up-time, asset longevity and safety, while reducing maintenance costs and risks.
