UK-headquartered estate agent Knight Frank will only purchase 100% renewable electricity for its properties under management.
The duration of the contract, with Total Gas and Power, is until 2021.
The move will save over 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, the equivalent to taking nearly 17,000 cars off the road during the period.
Over the term of the contract Knight Frank’s properties will use over 360 gigawatt hours of energy at a cost of over £75m.
Knight Frank head of energy and sustainability David Goatman said: “Alongside our initiatives to drive energy and resource efficiency in the buildings that we manage, procuring our power from renewable sources is a visible and meaningful commitment to responsible property asset management.
“This procurement is wholly supported by our clients and occupiers and is a clear example of us playing our role in reducing the substantial carbon emissions associated with the UK commercial real estate sector each year.”
