Lower wind energy production hit Duke Energy’s commercial renewables business segment in the first quarter of 2019.
Income from the unit was down to $13m in the first three months of the year, from $20m in the same period last year.
Commercial renewables production was 2068 gigawatt-hours in Q1 2019, dropping 5.1% from the 2180GWh produced in the first quarter of 2018.
Installed capacity was on a par with last year at 2996MW, compared with 2943MW previously.
However, the US company reported higher capital and investment in renewables in the period than the previous year – $90m compared with $73m.
Duke aims to own or procure on behalf of customers 1.25GW of more renewables capacity this year, which includes both regulated and commercial markets covered by the company.
Duke Energy president and chief executive Lyn Good said: “With the announcement of more than 1250MW of new regulated and commercial renewables projects, we advanced our vision to provide cleaner energy across our footprint.”
The company operates wind, solar and energy storage projects in the US.
