Photovoltaic installations in India have reached 30GW according to preliminary figures from Mercom’s latest India Solar Project Tracker.
The share of solar capacity grew from 6.6% in March 2018 to 8.4% in March 2019, the analysis found.
The share accounts for nearly 30% of the Indian government’s solar installation goal of 100GW by 2022, leaving 70GW to be installed over the next three years.
Among renewables, solar accounts for approximately 38% of the installed capacity, up 2% compared with the previous quarter.
According to Mercom’s market research renewable energy capacity additions accounted for approximately 22.3% of India’s capacity mix at the end of the financial year 2018-19, compared with 20.3% reported at the end of financial year 2017-2018, with solar installations driving the growth.
