UK energy department BEIS has issued the final statutory notices required to launch the upcoming third allocation round of its Contracts for Difference (CfD) renewables auctions.
The allocation round notice, framework notice and budget notices published on behalf of BEIS Secretary Greg Clark confirmed CfD3 will kick off on 29 May.
The application closing date for developers of so-called Pot 2 technologies including offshore wind, remote island wind, wave and tidal is 18 June and the end date is 29 November.
BEIS meanwhile has increased the auction budget to £65m in 2011/12 prices.
The draft budget notice published last November set out a £60m maximum amount of annual support available for applications bidding into either the 2023/24 or 2024/25 delivery years.
The £65m budget is expected to support the delivery of around 4GW of new renewables capped at a maximum of 6GW.
Other sources of low-carbon electricity eligible for the CfD3 auction are advanced conversion technologies, anaerobic digestion above 5MW, dedicated biomass with CHP and geothermal.
