Scotland’s Minister for Energy, Connectivity and the Islands Paul Wheelhouse will be visiting the inaugural Dcarbonise exhibition and conference and All-Energy on 16 May.
Wheelhouse will deliver a keynote address at the events’ joint plenary session at Glasgow’s SEC and will tour Dcarbonise.
Dcarbonise focuses on energy efficiency, low carbon heat and low carbon transport solutions while All-Energy addresses renewables, which it has upheld for almost 20 years since its launch in 2001.
Both events are open on 15 and 16 May.
The Scottish Government is sponsoring Dcarbonise along with the Energy Saving Trust and Zero Waste Scotland.
Dcarbonise is co-located with All-Energy and is also free to attend, enabling visitors to move freely between both exhibitions and attend conference and seminar sessions at both events.
Looking forward to his visit to these events, Wheelhouse said: “Scotland’s transformation into a low carbon society is well underway and, in 2018, almost 75% of Scotland’s electricity demand was generated from renewable sources.
“However, we need to see similar advances in decarbonisation of energy used for heat and transport.”
Wheelhouse said this wider transformation cannot be achieved by any government alone, but “can and will be achieved with the public, private and third sectors working together, and it is in this context that we are proud to sponsor the inaugural Dcarbonise exhibition and conference.”
The Scottish Government’s minimum energy efficiency requirements for privately rented properties come into effect on 1 April 2020.
Domestic private sector landlords with small property portfolios; non-domestic landlords; and the public sector are the primary target audience for the Dcarbonise hall.
Dcarbonise will also appeal to private sector landlords with larger property portfolios; local authorities; commercial businesses; architects and designers; the wider supply chain as well as trade bodies.
Wheelhouse commented: “The Scottish Government places great importance on working closely with businesses, the public sector, and individuals to: promote investment in energy efficiency and low carbon technologies to boost economic growth; to support jobs; to bring Scotland’s buildings up to standard; and to help households and businesses save money and I hope Dcarbonise helps to further build collaboration.”
The Scottish Government, Energy Saving Trust, Zero Waste Scotland and key Zero Waste Scotland Programme, Resource Efficient Scotland, will host a central hub within Dcarbonise where visitors can come to meet representatives from each of the organisations in the form of an ‘advice clinic’.
They will also be able to find out what help and support is available to ensure they meet future energy efficiency standards and can take advantage of the opportunities this will bring.
