GE Renewable Energy will now not supply 6MW turbines to two floating offshore wind farms in France as the company’s focus is on delivering the new 12MW Haliade-X (pictured) machine to market.
The company had been lined up to deliver hardware to the 24MW each Groix and Belle-Ile and Golfe du Lion projects, but will no longer provide turbines for the projects, a GE spokesperson said.
“GE believes in floating, but at this moment we remain focused on executing the development of our Haliade-X 12 MW offshore wind turbines prototype,” the spokesperson said.
“Floating is still a very new technology and it is too early to talk about a ‘floating market, in place. The delivery of Haliade-X 12 MW remains as our #1 priority for the offshore wind industry,” the spokesperson added.
Groix and Belle-Ile is being developed by a partnership led by Eolfi and CGN, while a consortium of led by Engie is developing the Golfe du Lion project.
Senvion 6.3M 152 hardware is lined up to replace the GE turbines at the latter wind farm, according to project website.
