Boskalis has won a deal to install export cables for Orsted’s 1.4GW Hornsea 2 wind farm off east England.
The Dutch marine contractor will lay three wires totalling 380km to connect the project off Yorkshire to shore.
Cables will hit landfall at Horseshoe Point where 300 metres of horizontal directional drilling will take place.
Contract scope covers preparation for installation, including geophysical surveys, boulder clearance and seabed levelling.
Boskalis has invested in a new multi-mode plough for both the pre-lay trenching and backfilling, the company said.
The plough, which will be pulled by construction vessel Boka Falcon, can withstand 200 tonness continuous pull, is capable of trenching at various depths and in a wide range of soil circumstances and was designed to minimise the environmental impact.
Boskalis will start work later this year and wrap up the contract in 2021.
The company said it aims to “maximise UK local content”.
Hornsea 2, which will feature 165 Siemens Gamesa turbines, is due online in 2022.
