Siemens Gamesa is to supply turbines for EDF Renewables’ 241MW Coyote and 246MW Oso Grande wind farms in Texas and New Mexico, respectively.

Coyote, located in Scurry county, will feature 48 4.5-145 and 11 2.3-108 machines. It is expected to be completed for the summer of 2020.

Oso Grande, which is located 69km southeast of Roswell, will use 48 4.5-145 and 13 2.3-108 turbines. Commissioning is scheduled for the last quarter of 2020.

Both deals also include service and maintenance agreements.

Siemens Gamesa onshore North America chief executive Jose Antonio Miranda said: “We are extremely proud to partner with EDF Renewables North America on these important orders for the 4.5-145 wind turbines in the US.

“This new generation turbine offers best-in-class LCoE based on proven technology and evidences our commitment to continued innovation.”

EDF Renewables vice president of wind technology strategy Art Del Rio said: “The evolution of our partnership with Siemens Gamesa to include this new technology is a significant milestone for both companies as it contributes to our long-standing efforts to reduce LCoE.

“This new 4.5-145 turbine is the ideal fit for the Coyote and Oso Grande projects, helping EDF Renewables achieve the value necessary to build a competitive project.”

The 4.5-145 has a rotor diameter of 145 metres, while the 71-metre blade integrates aerodynamics and noise reduction features-including Siemens Gamesa DinoTails.
